Summer is on the Way

We are reaching the end of April, and summer can be seen right around the corner. SOLs will take place in May, and school will let out in June. Rural Retreat High School has a little over a month before summer break. For some, summer couldn’t get here soon enough, but for others, it has approached far too quickly.

Seniors will be graduating and moving out into the world. These are the last days of high school that they will ever experience. Whether they are prepared for the life ahead or not, their lives in high school are suddenly screeching to a stop. Some can’t wait to leave, but others want to make the most out of the remainder of life they have left at Rural Retreat High School.

As for juniors, the upcoming summer will be their last summer break before they enter the game of life. This summer will be their last before they go to colleges or get jobs. The epiphany of being future seniors has finally set in, and anxiety fills every junior in the building. Whether these juniors are ready to be home free or not, I only have one wish for them: Make the most out of the summer that is given to you. Don’t grow up too fast. You are not an adult until you live independently of school.

If you want to visit the beach this summer, go to the beach. If you want to run marathons, run as much as you can. If you want to take pictures, then make your printer run out of ink if you have to.

Time moves too quickly to yearn for the future, or mourn for the past. All that we can do is make the best with the time that is given to us. When summer comes around, don’t be afraid to dream. Before too long, you might be faced with realities that you didn't expect.
