Grayson County student on the rise in wrestling

Will Lawrence won a Freestyle and Greco-Roman State championship this past weekend for the state of Virginia. Lawrence is a junior this year, and won his first Folkstyle state championship as well. Not only is winning a state championship a big deal for Lawrence and his family, but it's a big deal for Grayson County.
Grayson County has not had a state champion in wrestling in over 20 years. After Lawrence won the 152 pound weight class this past February, many of his friends and fellow students had a parade for him when he got home. It's a big deal to win a state title, especially in such a small community. Will has only been wrestling for three years, and trains very hard to achieve his goals. Last year, Lawrence got runner-up in the Virginia state championships losing with an 6-2 decision. He continues to train very hard not only in Folksyle (High School) wrestling, but the Olympic styles of Greco-Roman and Freestyle.
The season of wrestling is not over for Lawrence this year, as he is going North Dakota for the biggest tournament in the country. He is wrestling on Team Virginia, along with about 40 others. After the tournament he is going to continue to train at various summer camps and clinics. The sport of wrestling never ends for him, or Grayson County.
