Rural Retreat Soccer: A Slow Start

Last Tuesday at Narrows was the opening game for the Rural Retreat soccer team. Disappointingly after not having a team last year, the program wanted this game to be more of a learning experience. When the first whistle blew, Narrows had first possession. Our defense would hold strong until Narrows slipped one past us after ten minutes, but not long after their first goal Narrows scored again. All was not lost, thanks to a mistake by Narrows's defense, which allowed us to score for the first time. The final minutes of the first half came to a close with the score being 2-1 in favor of Narrows. During halftime, Coach Midkiff gave the team some helpful advice. After five minutes in the second half Narrows collapsed our defense, allowing them to score their third goal. Not long after, a Narrows players' pass turned into a goal. With a strong retaliation, we earned another goal. The game remained at a stalemate until 15 minutes left in regulation with a potential clear out for us turned into a Narrows goal. Taking advantage of Narrows's surprise, we scored our third and final goal. With the final five minutes ticking away Narrows, sneaked their sixth and final goal. At the end of regulation, the final score was RR three, Narrows six. With our heads high, we look forward to our next game.
