East Coast Classic a Success

Last week, the Rural Retreat Wrestling team competed in the East Coast Classic tournament, held in Eden, N.C. The wrestlers competing were: Josh Wynn, Trey Boyd, Jacob Wynn, and Ty Boyd.

Ty Boyd become only the second wrestler from Rural Retreat to ever win the East Coast Classic championship belt, as he placed first last weekend. And yes, I said championship belt! Ty won his finals match against a familiar opponent in Brookville’s Ashton Brown. Earlier in the year, Ty beat Brown by a major decision (8 or more points). Last week it was a little closer, as Ty won 8 to 6 to win the belt! Jacob Wynn placed third in the tournament, as he went 4-1 on the day to earn a third place finish. Also, Trey Boyd competed and he went 1-2 in competition.

Competing in the middle school division was Josh Wynn, who annihilated his competition on the way to a first-place finish.
