DECA

DECA, short for Distributive Education Clubs of America, prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools and colleges around the world. Club activities help members prepare for college and career planning, as well as financial planning. The RRHS chapter is sponsored by Coach Sexton.

Pep Club

Pep Club

      Pep club is a club for students to get pepped for football games and other activities that go on throughout the school year. Our job is to promote school spirit! We make posters, cheer for our school sports, and during pep rallies. We do activities to also get us hyped for the football games. The cheerleaders run the pep rallies and usually a senior football player makes a speech for the game. The band also plays songs during the pep rally. During the football games you could be a member of the Hype Squad. To be in the pep club, sign up with the club sponsor, Coach Leonard.

Towards New Horizons

      FCCLA is an inspiring program that promotes individual growth and leadership development through family- and consumer-based projects. Members develop imperative skills such as character development, creative thinking, communicating, and career preparation. Young men and women build these significant skills by interacting with other students at competitions. You have a choice between different projects in which you will be presenting in the competitions. These competitions are usually held at Virginia Beach, and after everyone is done competing we are allowed to venture around and enjoy the amazing view. If you are interested, you can sign up to join. If you have any questions, see the club sponsor, Mrs. Burkentine.

FBLA is the largest student organization in the world. The mission of this organization is to unite business and education to help prepare its members for future careers and leadership skills.

FBLA's Focus :
Leadership Development - members of FBLA hold positions and offices to develop leadership skills and knowledge. There are two regional FBLA meetings per year: one at Bluefield College in the fall, and the other at George Wythe High School in the spring.

To be an active member of FBLA, and to attend and compete in meetings and events, each student must pay dues. Local dues are $3, Regional dues are $2, State dues are $4, and National dues are $6. Total, there are $15 dues to participate in the club.

Rural Retreat Marching Band

This year's theme is "Together We Rise". The songs include Ascend, I Believe I Can Fly, and Into The Clouds. We have three marching competitions all in October: Princeton, WVA; Pulaski, and,George Wythe. Over the summer we had a week of band camp, working each day from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., which is a total of nine hours a day! With all this practice, we hope to make this year great and succeed in our competitions. Even though we are small, we accomplish a lot of things.

Advice for Freshmen

Congratulations! You made it through middle school and now you're a freshman. Every high school student has been a freshman at some point and knows how nerve racking it can be. Here is some advice from upperclassmen to this year's freshmen.

"Take all your classes seriously. Your GPA matters." -Grace Caudill

"Don't complain about your classes being hard, they're the easiest ones you'll take. Also, don't be afraid to participate. You have more fun that way." -Bryce Poole

"Don't get into fights. Do what you're supposed to." -Jordan Dalton

"Be involved in something." -Hannah Roberts

"Don't be shy. Also, wear clothes that match." -Josh Wynn

"Don't stay up until 4 a.m. playing Xbox." -Jesse Burton

"Join the Social Studies MACC team." -Thomas Brown
