Climb of Luck

According to Yahoo News, a French mountain climber stumbled upon a trove of emeralds, rubies, and sapphires while climbing the Mont Blanc glacier. The unnamed climber stated that he found the jewels in a metal box that bore the stamp “Made in India.” He took the box to local authorities so he could get the estimated value of the jewels (around $332,000 dollars) and so they could send the jewels back to India to find the rightful heirs. The box the jewels were in was in a plane crash at Mont Blanc that occurred 50 years prior; the crash killed 117 people, including the "pioneer of India’s nuclear program," Homi Jehangir Bhabha. Climbers of Mont Blanc often see debris, baggage, and human remains on their climbs up the mountain. According to French policy, if the jewels are not claimed by their rightful owners, then the climber may walk away $332,000 richer. If only everyone could find that many jewels climbing a mountain!
